Privacy Policy

Grove is built to know as little about you as possible. Here's the whole story.

The short version

Grove has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. Everything you do in the app — your photos, the friends you meet, where you met them, your preferences — stays on your device. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

What stays on your phone

• Photos you take are saved inside the app on your device so your friends have a face. They aren't uploaded anywhere.
• Identification happens entirely on your device using Apple's on-device Vision — your photos are never sent to a server to figure out what's in them.
• Location (optional) is used only to tag where you met a friend, so you can remember your adventures. It's stored on your device and never sent to us. You can turn it off anytime in Settings.
• Your progress and preferences (levels, badges, reminders, and app settings) are stored locally on your device.

What we collect

Nothing. Grove does not have servers that receive your data, and does not include third-party advertising or analytics tools. We don't sell, rent, or share your information, because we never receive it in the first place.

Permissions

Grove asks for your camera so you can photograph the animals you meet, and (optionally) your location to tag where you found them. Both are used only for those purposes, and only when you choose to use them.

Notifications

If you turn on reminders, Grove schedules them locally on your device — there's no server pushing messages, and no data leaves your phone to make them work.

Children

Grove is friendly for all ages and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

Your control

You're always in charge of your data. Release any individual friend, or erase your entire Grove, from the app's Settings. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, we'll update it here with a new date.

Using Grove

By using Grove, you agree to these terms. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app for your own enjoyment.

Be kind out there

Grove is about noticing the wildlife around you — please do it responsibly. Respect animals and their habitats, keep a safe and courteous distance, and mind other people's privacy and property when taking photos.

Identification is best-effort

Grove tries to recognize the animals in your photos, but it won't always be right — it's meant to be a delightful companion, not a scientific tool. Don't rely on it for anything where getting the species right actually matters.

The app is provided "as is"

Grove is offered without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we aren't liable for any damages arising from your use of the app.

Apple's terms

Grove is distributed through the App Store, and Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app.
